It went on and on but neither the characters nor the story-line was very interesting. Of course romance followed, along with some suspense and mystery. This is a low angst read but there are times that emotions between MC’s and even other characters boil over – they were quite worth the pages in between. Jessie is a pushover, and I don’t like that as well. Everyone thought Jessie Benedict’s impending marriage to Sam Hatchard was a great arrangement — everyone, that is, but Jessie herself.
Slow in parts, but a great “relaxation” read! He was more than just a chip off the old workaholic’s block — he was positively lusting after Jessie’s inheritance to build his own business empire!

Let me start by saying that this book, like a lot of others by the same author has some crazy family dynamics involved. Her men may not have deep voices, but they’re close enough for me and there’s a lightness in her narration that really fits these stories, so I can enjoy reading or listening to them.
But when a break-in and an intimidating act of vandalism strike close to home, her investigation pairs her with the compellingly masculine entrepreneur. It’s always a pleasant surprise to find that a not so unique story line can be delivered in manner that is worth your time.

The plot was fortunne pre-mobile phone and internet, and a touch patriarchal to the point where it wasn’t entirely possible to suspend judgement and disbelief. This is one of her older books, and I can clearly see the difference between it and her newer ones.
The book is straightforward and the romance is not particularly complex, but I like the variety of kerntz in the story. Our hero Hatch isn’t perfect. Slow beginning, but recovers in second half.
